Doha, Qatar – Botswana is actively courting Qatari investors as part of a strategic push to position itself as a leading investment destination and business hub in Africa. The effort, led by Presidential Envoy Dr. Farzam Kamalabadi, seeks to deepen economic ties and attract foreign capital into key sectors.

Dr. Kamalabadi recently met with board members of the Qatar Chamber, including Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli and Dr. Mohamed Jawhar Al Mohamed, to discuss trade relations and investment opportunities. The discussions highlighted Botswana’s stable investment climate and its potential in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and infrastructure.

“Qatari investors are keen to explore investment opportunities in Africa, particularly in Botswana, which is considered a leading investment destination,” said Mohamed Al Obaidli of the Qatar Chamber. He emphasized the need for flexible legislation to protect investments and called for a joint business meeting to facilitate cooperation.

Dr. Kamalabadi noted that while there are already successful Qatari investments in Botswana’s hospitality and banking sectors, the country is eager to attract more. He underscored Botswana’s clear strategic vision and diverse opportunities, aiming to capitalize on its reputation as a secure and business-friendly environment.

Dr. Al Mohamed of the Qatar Chamber acknowledged Qatar’s own economic achievements, particularly its successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022, and its strong global partnerships. He expressed the interest of Qatari investors in exploring Botswana’s opportunities for mutual benefit.

The parties also discussed the importance of signing cooperation agreements between the two countries’ chambers of commerce to strengthen private sector partnerships. This initiative aims to create a framework for sustained collaboration and a smoother path for future investments.
