Ambassador Fan Yong of China recently met with Professor Ketlhatlhogile Mosepele, the Vice-Chancellor of the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the critical sectors of education and agriculture. The high-level exchange focused on leveraging China’s successful development models to benefit Botswana, particularly in agricultural modernization.
The Ambassador underscored the significance of educational and cultural exchanges as a cornerstone of the robust China-Botswana relationship. With this year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Ambassador Fan articulated China’s willingness to utilize the momentum from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit outcomes. This initiative is expected to facilitate the sharing of China’s advancements in agricultural modernization and deepen mutual engagement across agricultural, cultural, and academic spheres.
Professor Mosepele, on behalf of BUAN, conveyed profound gratitude for China’s consistent and long-standing support for Botswana’s education sector. He expressed appreciation for China’s monumental achievements in agricultural modernization and poverty alleviation, highlighting a strong interest in formally integrating Chinese developmental and poverty eradication experiences into Botswana’s strategies. To this end, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the necessity for closer institutional exchanges with Chinese universities and academic bodies, aiming to bolster collaboration in research innovation and talent development.
