Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) have entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating innovation, strengthening research and driving sustainable transformation within the country’s meat industry.
The partnership marks a forward-looking commitment to value addition, advanced technology adoption, skills development and the modernisation of production systems across the sector.
Through joint collaboration, the two institutions will explore cutting-edge solutions including food irradiation, smart processing technologies, cold chain optimisation, blockchain-enabled traceability systems, renewable energy integration and new product development.
This MoU lays the groundwork for a more competitive, technology driven and future-ready meat industry, positioning Botswana to enhance efficiency, expand market access and deepen value creation across the livestock value chain.
