A strategic partnership between South Africa’s Conlog and Botswana’s Allgreen Holdings is set to transform the way water is managed in the southern African nation. At the heart of this collaboration is the iDM.Hydra water demand management system, a technology designed to provide long-term solutions for the country’s Water Utility Corporation (WUC).

The project was initiated after WUC issued a tender for smart prepaid water meters featuring ultrasonic flowmeters. The resulting system is a hybrid model that combines Diehl’s ultrasonic measurement technology with Conlog’s prepayment functionality and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

According to Desigan Govender, Project Portfolio Manager at Conlog, the primary objective is to enhance the efficiency of water and revenue management. The system is comprised of three core components: a smart water meter, advanced metering infrastructure, and a platform for vending and data analysis.

The system aims to improve customers’ quality of life by providing utilities with data-driven insights to influence decision-making. The partnership reflects a growing trend across Africa toward the use of smart technology to address critical infrastructure challenges and improve service delivery.
